Facial Balancing with Dermal Fillers
A dermal filler is an injectable gel that is used at different depths to fill in collagen loss and/or wrinkles, soften creases, provide volume, and augment and contour facial features for a smoother or fuller appearance. Often used to address signs of aging, as we naturally lose volume through the face as we age.
These gel-like fillers are naturally derived and will be absorbed by the body and are FDA approved. We use a hyaluronic acid type of filler, which is a synthetic version of a naturally-occurring sugar our body makes. You should see results instantly however it does take 2-4 weeks for them to settle completely!
Facial Harmonizing with Fillers
Our approach at The Aesthetic Method is always on full face balancing. Licensed medical providers, who are experienced injectors, will consult with you on the outcomes you are looking for and we will make a recommendation for the areas to be treated. This approach takes in your full facial appearance, not just one area of the face. In your initial consultation, we will discuss what areas we recommend for treatment based on the outcomes you’re looking for. Working on only certain areas at a time can produce unnatural and uneven appearances. This is not what we want for you. We will balance your face, treating these areas harmoniously for a natural, enhanced appearance after treatment. These are some of the common areas addressed when facial balancing with fillers:
Midface Fillers
Dermal fillers in this area can provide a more youthful appearance. Midface fillers are used for a lifted and more volumized look. This is one of the first areas our facial fat is lost and bony resorption takes place as part of the aging process. This area also helps support our under-eyes and nasolabial folds.
Undereye Filler
This sensitive area can be treated with Hyaluronic acid to improve your appearance. A boost in collagen production can restore vitality to this area. This cosmetic treatment can give you a natural, less-tired look.
Chin Fillers
Enhance or define the chin with dermal fillers. Hyaluronic acid injections can tighten the skin and add volume to reduce the signs of aging. Treatment in this area can achieve a more contoured or slimmed look. As we age our chins become shorter and wider creating a more masculine and less balanced appearance. Injecting filler into a chin not only balances the lips but redefines the whole face.
Filler for the Temples
Fillers will draw moisture and volume back to this area. Fillers in the temporal area can fill out hollows and restore volume to a sunken temple and brow area. This area houses a fat pad and as we age, we lose fat. Without the plump fat pad in our temples, our foreheads start to look larger, our brows start to look bonier and our once natural-looking cheeks appear unnatural and too large.
Fillers for the Piriform Aperture
Filler will augment the lower midface and enhance facial proportions. These small triangular depressions on either side of the nose can be revolumized for a more youthful appearance. This also will support your nasolabial folds, lips and undereyes.
Lip Filler
Hyaluronic acid fillers can add volume and fullness to the lips. We can augment the size and enhance the shape of your lips to contribute to a more harmonious and natural looking you.
Nasolabial Folds and Laugh Lines Treatment
Filler injections are used in this area to smooth out and reduce the demarcation between the cheeks and the lower face. Treating this area can reduce the appearance of wrinkles and fine lines around the mouth and nose area and also add volume to the lips and cheeks.
Fillers for Smokers’ Lines
This area can be softly treated for fine lines with hyaluronic acid fillers. This method is quick and effective and you will see instant results. Smokers’ lines are also known as water bottle lines and can even be seen on individuals that haven’t smoked, but instead is a genetic component!
Fillers for Cheeks
Raising the volume around the cheekbone area for a fuller or more defined look. Fillers in the cheeks can restore lost volume and more sharply define the bone structure. This is one of the first areas our facial fat is lost and bony resorption takes place as part of the aging process.
Jawline Filler
Fillers will work to create a sculpted and contoured jawline. Jaw filler will chisel and streamline the shape of the jaw and minimize the signs of aging. Improve the jawline with a smoother appearance and provide structure to balance the face.
Neck Fillers
Most often used to treat lines and wrinkles around the neck. Dermal fillers can smooth out vertical and horizontal wrinkle lines and tighten a sagging neck. Ask about our multiple other modalities we use to treat this area depending on how severe your lines may appear.
Shadow/Marionette Area
Dermal filler can be injected into the marionette area to plump the hollows and to lift or pull back on sagging skin in the shadow area and re-contour. Injections may reduce the shadows that start from the corner of the mouth and run down towards the jawline to either side of the chin, smooth out the fold, and reduce the appearance of shadowing. Our eyes see shadows as aging and light as youthfulness.
Preparing for Your Dermal Filler Appointment
We typically recommend avoiding large amounts of alcohol 72 hours before, caffeine day of, and any NSAIDS/Blood thinners 1 week prior to your treatment to minimize bleeding/bruising. Please consult your physician before stopping any prescription medications.
There is a higher chance of bruising with dermal filler treatments than with Botox, so some clients may take arnica tablets 4-7 days prior to their treatment, but it is not necessary. Arnica is an over-the-counter homeopathic medication that helps prevent bruising, found in most pharmacies.
At Your Dermal Filler Appointment
You can expect to spend about 45 minutes at your dermal filler appointment. Dermal fillers are minimally invasive and most clients are very comfortable during treatment. Our fillers contain lidocaine and we also numb you before. If at any time you feel uncomfortable, we are happy to give you more numbing. Or if you are anxious we offer Nitrous Oxide aka “laughing gas!”
After Your Dermal Fillers Appointment
Please DO NOT massage or manipulate the area treated as this may alter your results. This is especially important in the first 6 hours following treatment as that is when the filler is most malleable.
Please drink LOTS of water. Hyaluronic acid fillers work by absorbing water so the more you drink, the more beautiful your results.
If you are experiencing swelling, you may ice the area for 10 minutes at a time. Please be sure to take a 10-minute break between ice applications as it is easy to give yourself frostbite if the ice pack is left on for too long.
We recommend you do not exercise for 24-48 hours as this will increase swelling.
Keep in mind some treatments may have different aftercare instructions so these may not all apply to your specific service. We will go over everything at your appointment that applies.
Facial Balancing with Dermal Filler Results
The rule of thumb is to not love or hate your filler for 2-4 weeks. Depending on what area is treated, there may be several days of swelling, bruising, and the filler will feel firm. Swelling resolves within 3-4 days and bruising resolves within a week if it occurs at all. The filler will feel firm for the first 2 weeks and may feel lumpy but will soften as it settles and feel softer.
If you are prone to bruising, ask about our signature anti-bruising protocol at your appointment!
To achieve Full Face Rejuvenation, you may need multiple filler appointments over the course of 6-12 months.
Dermal fillers last different amounts of time depending on the product and placement. Some dermal fillers last 6-12 months while others last 18-24 months. On average, most clients will come in at least once to twice a year to maintain their results.
