Smooth Your Skin with Botulinum Toxin Treatments: Botox, Dysport, Jeuveau, Daxxify

What Is Botulinum Toxin?

A botulinum toxin is a cosmetic treatment that temporarily paralyzes your muscles to smooth the skin. We work with several well-known brands to achieve this - Botox, Dysport, Jeuveau, and Daxxify. Medically-trained and experienced injectors will target areas to reduce and smooth wrinkles and fine lines. This common, safe botulinum toxin injection is customized to enhance your natural beauty in the areas most important to you.

What Areas Respond Well to a Botulinum Toxin?

During the consultation, a plan will be created to treat the areas you are interested in achieving a reduced appearance of wrinkles or fine lines. To obtain a natural look, we will treat each area you are targeting with a smaller amount rather than freezing one area with a larger amount of toxin. Areas we commonly treat are:

  • Horizontal lines across your forehead

  • "Mean 11s" or vertical frown lines between your eyebrows

  • "Bunny lines" or lines near the bridge of your nose

  • "Crow's feet" or lines at the corner of your eyes

  • Gummy Smiles

  • Lip Flips

  • Vertical lines around the mouth also known as “smoker lines” (these can be genetic, no smoking required to obtain them)

  • Downturned corners of the mouth

  • Dimpling chin

  • Massesters or for TMJ

  • Horizontal lines across the neck

  • Underarms for excessive sweating

  • Eyebrows

  • Forehead

  • Chin

  • Jawline

  • Neck

Are Injectables Safe?

All brands we work with are Food and Drug Administration (FDA) approved and are generally safe for most individuals when administered by a medical provider. If you have questions, talk to our experienced team members.

Are There Any Side Effects to Injectables?

Most individuals won’t experience any side effects. Every person will respond differently, but if there are any side effects, they typically only last a day or two. Common side effects might include:

  • Pain, swelling, redness or bruising at the treatment site

  • Flu-like symptoms

  • Headache

  • Temporary drooping eyelids (ptosis)

Does Botulinum Toxin Hurt?

It is surprisingly easy and comfortable to be treated with Botulinum Toxin Injections. You will feel a small prick when the needle is inserted and may experience some mild discomfort. Our trained injectors at our Ferndale medical spa will help you move through this part of the treatment quickly.

How Much Does Botox Treatment Cost?

Costs range and are based on the units of the Botulinum Toxin product used for your treatment. We will make recommendations based on the results you are trying to achieve in a certain area. Some areas will need more units because the muscle is larger and stronger, while other areas will only need a couple.

Besides, Botox, Do You Work With Other Brands?

We work with the top brands you know including Allergan Aesthetics (Botox®), Evolus (Jeuveau®), Galderma (Dysport®) and Revance Therapeutics (Daxxify™) brands. Individuals may prefer one over another and it is best to try them to find the one that works best for you.

You may want to see which works best for you. For instance, for one treatment, you may try Jeuveau Injections and at your next treatment try a Dysport Injection or see if Daxxify works best. We can make recommendations, but you can see which brand you respond best to. We can help you to decide which injectable might work the best for your treatment plan to achieve the results you are looking for.

How Should I Prepare for Treatment?

Some medications, like blood thinners and NSAIDS, can increase the risk of bruising at the injection site, so it is best to avoid them for 1 week before your treatment (discuss with your doctor or our clinicians if you’re not sure).

It is also best to avoid alcohol for 72 hours before treatment and caffeine the day of as you can experience more bruising or redness. Please consult your doctor before stopping or changing any prescription medications or if you have any medical conditions you are worried about.

Your appointment will take approximately 30 minutes, however, the injections themselves take about 5 minutes.

After the Treatment

Your injector will discuss after-treatment care with you. You may see some tiny red bumps immediately after treatment but these should subside in about 10-15 minutes. To help reduce any swelling, redness or bruising:

  • DO NOT lay flat on your back for 3 hours following treatment. This prevents the botulinum toxin from migrating to other areas not treated.

  • DO NOT exercise or engage in any activities that will cause you to sweat from areas treated for 24 hours! This could reduce longevity.

  • DO NOT massage areas treated, receive a facial or massage for 48 hours.

  • No hats or headbands that could put pressure on the areas treated for 24 hours.

  • Don’t rub or put pressure on the treated area for 12 hours after being treated.

  • Apply any makeup over the treated area with a clean applicator.

How Often Should I Get Botulinum Injectables?

You should expect to see results 2-14 days after treatment and must wait 2 weeks before getting any additional treatment or touch-ups for that area. We recommend treatments every 3-4 months (or every 6 months with Daxxify) to maintain your results and prevent future wrinkles.
